I bought this book for my manager for Nurses Week. As I perused the chapters, I realized the book was a gift for me too, as a nurse! Not only do I better appreciate the challenges of being a healthcare leader today, I also learned about how to be more powerful and impactful in my practice (Mirror, Mirror is a must read). The examples are practical, relatable, and provide humorous scenarios that allow the reader to step back from a situation, regroup, reassess, and re-enter with a more helpful perspective. I encourage nurses, at any level, to keep this handy as a reference for how to create and maintain a workplace culture that empowers them to optimize their own self-care as well as their patients’ care.

Have now read this book twice. Especially love how it energizes me to be a leader worthy of followership. The authors hold a mirror up for us as leaders with humility and grace. Each story brings reflection, insight and application. I’ve been asked for a favorite. How can I choose? Thank you for this book I’ll go back to again and again.

The stories were intimate, introspective and inclusive. They were also thought-provoking and reassuring. The Leadership Sandwich should be required reading for anyone tasked with meeting the leadership challenges in their healthcare facility.
